Adieu Tristesse

by Soufferance

/
1.
In the mist of summer depression she came to me like a winter flower. Her arrival created an unexpected settlement that seemed to hold me at peak. This rare blossom offered a change to indigo moods yet I was reluctant to go.
2.
It wasn't until people began noticing that I was in love that I realized it. It wasn't the usual type. This time it was the growing kind. The kind that never happened before and that you never expect to know because love does not wait that long. But this time it did. And through our voyages together, she became the flame in my lurid existence.
3.
Because her ideas of comfort and values of love were still innocent and pure, she was almost perfect. Because our moments together were everlasting, this was almost perfect. But we were still, only, almost perfect.
4.
She would often have fits of confusion which were dealt with by breaking up. In those separated moments time always seemed to stagger and dread like a tree keeping it’s leaves after the falling of snow. But hearts were never fond of cold weather and in absence, they could never melt.
5.
She was away for so long I had to be reminded what it was like to be with her. To have her around and to have our usual disagreements. We both knew it would never be the same again, but what of it? In my mind it was worth continuing, if only for the comfort of togetherness.
6.
As she left to conquer other hearts, mine was left with no inspiration. My failures came and soon death. And yet she was still with me as the sky bloomed tonight... but I knew she'd never spend the rest of her life with me.
7.
That summer felt like winter. It was so cold all the time and even aged liqueurs went unnoticed. Moments became days and weeks became eternity as life lingered on. I needed her badly.
8.
I was born when she kissed me... I died when she left me... and I lived a few months while she loved me.

about

“I was born when she kissed me, I died when she left me. And I lived a few months while she loved me”. This short but heartfelt phrase is the way Alexandre Julien chooses to describe this new Soufferance album, appropriately titled “Adieu Tristesse”. The title translates to “Goodbye Sorrow”, and is the second release in the “Sorrow”/”Tristesse” phase, which began in November 2009 when this album started being written and recorded. Four years in the making and after going through two unreliable producers, three art designers and countless shady promises from other record labels, Abridged Pause Recordings is proud to finally officially release this album.

Needless to say, when it comes to a Soufferance release, this is a concept album. And Abridged Pause brings you both releases from the “Tristesse” concept; the “Bonjour Tristesse” EP and the “Adieu Tristesse” LP. Both are taken from the newest masters available and presented with full digital booklets. After Niels Geybels created delicate artwork for both releases, Alexandre Julien had to rework the layout countless times, for each record label that had it’s own format and specifications. There are versions of the artwork for practically every format, CD, double CD, tape, vinyl, digital. The digital booklet included with the album downloads feature the best of everything with all the short stories, written for this concept, combined.
